I talk to a lot of current and prospective clients on a regular basis and I often get asked the same types of questions, so I thought it was about time to create a frequently asked questions page on my website. This FAQs page will serve as a good resource for current and prospective clients to quickly get my answers to common questions, and I’ll continually update this page with more questions as time goes on.
What do you do?
We help companies advertise on Google. We set up and management clients’ Google Ads accounts. We set up great Google Ads campaigns and then manage those campaigns on a weekly basis and report results monthly to our clients.
Our main focus is getting my clients the most high-quality traffic possible from Google for their given monthly budgets. We’re trying to get you the most quality traffic and produce the most quality leads and sales possible for the given monthly budget.
You can read more about our Google Ads management services here.
Specifically in Google Ads, what do you focus on?
Google Ads, as of this writing, breaks down into four main advertising categories:
a) Text Ads on Google Searches (desktop, mobile, and tablet)
b) Display Ads on Google’s Display Network (remarketing and other forms of display targeting)
d) YouTube Video Ads (Google owns YouTube)
We focus on setting up and managing Google Ads campaigns on the first two items above, text ads on Google searches and display ads on Google’s display network.
We do a little bit of YouTube ad management. And we don’t do any Product Listing/Shopping ads.
If you need to advertise traditional text ads on Google searches or display ads on Google’s display network, I’m your guy. Fill out this form, and I’ll send you a proposal.
If you need to advertise product listing shopping ads on Google, contact me and I’ll refer you to a product listing ads specialist.
Do you also manage Bing Ads campaigns?
Yes, many of our clients run search ads on both Google and Bing and we manage both Google Ads campaigns and Bing Ads campaigns.
What types of businesses do you manage Google Ads ads for?
The majority of the campaigns we manage are for lead generation. We help our clients get leads from Google Ads via phone calls and lead form completions.
We work for doctors, lawyers, movers, roofers, accountants, IT firms, catering companies, lending companies, home inspectors, yoga schools, gymnastic schools, insurance agents, creative agencies, property managers, software companies, storage companies, and the list goes on and on. Pretty much we work for companies in every industry that needs to get leads from Google searches.
We work with clients from everywhere around the world. We work with clients in Oklahoma City, where I live, and we work with clients throughout the entire United States. We also work with clients from places as far away as Perth, Australia, London, and the United Arab Emirates.
We work with both small and large clients. Some of my clients spend as little as $500/month on Google Ads, while other clients spend as much as $30,000/month. Most of my clients spend between $1,500/month and $6,000/month on Google Ads.
Do you make clients sign contracts?
No. I hate legalese and signing long contracts, so I don’t ask my clients to do that. I don’t ask clients to sign a contract.
Each month you get to decide if I’m adding enough value to continue for another month. If you’re happy we do another month, if you’re not happy you fire me.
In most cases, my clients are very happy with my services and keep me on as the manager of their Google Ads campaigns for as long as they advertise on Google. I have clients that have been with me for over five years. And most of my clients have been with me for more than three years.
Does your accounting background play a role in your Google Ads management?
I earned an accounting degree from Oklahoma State University, and I had a few accounting jobs before I transitioned into digital marketing and Google Ads. This accounting background plays a huge role in my Google Ads work.
My accounting background helps me think like a business owner and put myself in your shoes. My accounting background keeps me focused on the numbers and helps me determine how we can make the Google Ads campaigns profitable for your business.
I’m a professional marketer, but I’m still an accountant at heart. My bean-counting background and inclination help me achieve the most profit possible from my clients’ Google Ads campaigns.
How do you stay up-to-date with Google Ads and continue to improve?
Being in multiple Google Ads accounts for 50 hours a week sure helps me stay current with Google Ads! I’m in lots of accounts every day, and all of that setting up and management activity helps me constantly improve and expand my AdWords skill sets.
I also write a lot about Google Ads here on my blog, so that researching and teaching process helps me continue to improve.
I am in constant communication with other Google Partners and Google Ads professionals via private online forums where we compare notes and talk shop. Sharing ideas and strategies with other professionals who are among the top Google Ads freelancers in the world helps me a bunch! My peers are a great resource.
Being a co-host on the weekly Paid Search Podcast helps me keep up to date with new features in Google Ads.
I am a Google Partner and I get great support from my dedicated Google Partner team, and they’re always keeping me up to date about the newest Google Ads features.
And finally, I improve my Google Ads skills sets by reading books about Google Ads and also by reading about Google Ads online, like on the official Google Ads blog.
How long until I see results?
One of the beautiful things about Google Ads is that you can get instant results within a few hours of launching your campaign.
I set up your campaign, we launch it, and within a couple hours your ads will be live on Google searches for the keywords we decide to target. Then that targeted traffic that we get in front of will click on your ads and a percentage of that traffic will call your business or fill out a lead form and you’ll be getting results.
Now, to be sure, your Google Ads campaigns will improve over the following weeks and months when I continually improve your campaigns based on the data we get in, so over the long term, results will get better and better. But yes, with Google Ads you can start getting results from your campaigns instantly.
What monthly budget should I start with?
Most of my clients start with a monthly budget of $1,000 to $3,000 a month. Some of my larger clients start with a budget much larger than that.
If you’re new to Google Ads and want to try it out and don’t have a huge marketing budget, I recommend starting with a $1,000 to $3,000 a month budget.
I don’t recommend going any smaller than $500/month.
A nice feature about Google Ads is that the budget can be changed anytime. So we can start at a certain monthly budget and then scale up as soon as you see results.
Where do you accept clients from?
I accept clients from anywhere in the world. Most of my clients are from around the United States, but I also work with international clients in places like Canada, Australia, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates.
Where do you live?
I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Do you do this full-time or do you have another job?
I run Rothman PPC full-time, and I work a Monday through Friday schedule during normal business hours.
I quit my last job in November of 2014 and I have been doing Google Ads management freelancing ever since.
Do you work for your own clients or for agencies who outsource to you?
I work both for my own clients (the actual business owners) and for agencies who outsource their Google Ads work to me.
I enjoy working for both the business owners and for the agencies I work with. It’s a good mix.
Whether you’re a business owner who needs help with Google Ads, or you’re an agency looking to outsource your Google Ads work, contact me and let me know how I can help you. I look forward to serving you and doing a great job on your Google Ads campaigns.
