Anyone Can Make Custom Landing Pages Now

I was flattered and offended at the same time.  There I was on my big day in November of 2014.  I was in my boss’ office telling, him that I was quitting to go run my PPC business full time.  I was a gentleman and gave to weeks notice.  But what did he do?  He did what any company owner worth half his salt would do – he tried to scare me into staying and working for much less than I was worth.  Did it work?  Not for a second 🙂  But I can’t blame him.  He needed my services to make more money for himself and used a fear tactic to try to scare me into staying at his company.

My old company was a web design agency and my job was to set up and manage clients’ Google AdWords campaigns.  Being the entrepreneur that I am, I thought to myself, I can do a better job, be more efficient, and run a better business.  So I decided to give my notice and launch Rothman PPC as a full time business.

So I asked to speak with my boss and he takes me to his office.  I tell him that I’m leaving. He asks a few questions, and I give honest answers.  Then as a last ditch attempt to scare me into staying in his employ, he says, “yea, but you can’t make websites and we both know that a good AdWords campaign needs custom landing pages, and you can’t do that.”

I gulped, tried not to show my hand, and just said, “Okay.  Well, I’m leaving.”  But he was right. The truth is that I couldn’t make landing pages.  I didn’t have the skill set for it.  And making custom landing pages was going to be a hurdle in my AdWords management business.  But it was okay.  I could continue to do what I was already doing – I would just hire web designers to make custom landing pages for me and my clients.  And that’s what I did.  I’m proud of myself for not falling for his fear tactic.  I’m proud of my decision to choose myself and start my own business.  Things are working out.

But my former boss was right.  The truth is that I couldn’t make my own landing pages, and that was indeed a threat to my AdWords management business model.  Fortunately, I was able to hire web designers when I needed to make custom landing pages.  But now I no longer need to do that.  Now I can actually make landing pages myself.

How?  The answer is instapage.

I still don’t have web design skills.  And I still can’t make my custom landing pages from scratch.  But it doesn’t matter.  Instapage is a landing page software that utilizing two powerful concepts to help marketers and business owners make their own landing pages. Those two concepts are templates and drop and drop functionality.  Instapage provides tons and tons of template landing pages that are perfect for pay per click marketing.  And their simple drag and drop functionality makes it extremely easy to edit and customize their template landing pages.  And you don’t need any web design or coding skills.  Instapage is a game changer.

With instapage I’m able to efficiently build as many custom landing pages as I want for all of my clients who want them.  I no longer have to deal with the time and expense of using a web designer.  And I can quickly make edits to my pages, which allows me to continually be testing and optimizing my landing pages.  Again, this is a game changer.

There are other custom landing pages softwares out there,  but I like instapage.  It’s easy to use, cost effective, they have great templates, and they won my business as a customer because of the ability to test our their product before you buy it, and even before you have to sign up.  They let you get right in there and start editing the templates.  I highly recommend instapage to all business owners and marketers who run pay per click advertising campaigns.  You can try instapage here.

On this blog we’ll be talking a lot about landing pages and why they are so important in the future.  Generally it’s good to think about landing pages as half the battle of pay per click marketing.  Yes, the first half is your Google AdWords campaign, and you have to get that right.  But the second half really is your landing page.  A successful AdWords campaign needs both 1) a great AdWords campaign, and 2) an optimized landing page.

Landing pages are so important because they help you increase sales and conversions, and they can improve your pay per click performance.  Landing page experience plays a major role in your keyword quality scores in AdWords.  Landing pages are a very important part of running a successful pay per click campaign.  In fact, they are half the battle.

I grew up a lot the day I quit my last job.  I’ve learned so much in the last three months, and it seems like it’s been three years already.  I’m so glad I didn’t succumb to my former boss’ fear tactic.  Yea, but you can’t making landing pages.  He might as well have been saying fuck you, you’re going to go broke, lose your money, and fail.  You need me.

Well, the truth is that I don’t need him, and I never did.  I got along fine before instapage, and having a great software like instapage makes it that much easier to get the landing pages I need for my clients’ AdWords campaigns.

I don’t make great decisions very often.  But I sure as heck did when I overcame his fear-mongering and walked out of that office to become my own (custom landing page building) man.
